Balding like Beckham
According to my diary, today is my Saint's day, or at least it would be if I spelt my name with an accent on the "o", i.e. Simeón. Not willing to let such an important date pass by without some kind of celebration (put it in your diary for next year!) I think that this evening I will go to the cinema and then go to bed, as I am quite tired after being obliged to get up at the crack of dawn to go and teach at the airport. And no gentlemen, I am not teaching airhostesses!!!!!!!I am particularly sceptical about Monday's class. Tuesday in Spain is a public holiday, and consequently many of my students will not be there are they will be puenting. For those with knowledge of Spanish will know that this is the word for bungee jumping!!!!- puente is bridge- but the bridge in this case refers to the fact that if Tuesday is a holiday than I can use one of my holiday days to "bridge" the gap thus creating a four day weekend. I say I, I do of course mean most other people in the country...
More exciting news...
The Spanish have finally realised I am here. Last week on page three (!!) of a national newspaper the headline was "SIMEON, EN MADRID". (For the nonlinguists out there maybe I should translate the word "en". It means "in") OK, as you might expect the article wasn't about me, but Simeon Saxe-Coburg-Etc, King/President/Prime Minister (or the man in charge) of Bulgaria, who apperently was exiled in Spain after WW2, which in itself is quite interesting! But even more interesting if you happen to have exactly the same name and you can cut out the article and stick it on your wall. (I haven't)
BECKHAM NEWS!! I have found yet another similarity between myself and Dave. Alongside living in Spain and general drop dead gorgeousness we can now add baldness. But, whereas my hairline is receding due to bad luck/ genetic default/Mother Nature having a laugh at my expense, call it what you will, my esteemed countryman and fellow expat gets PAID 10 million euros a year to shave his head. And I have to pay to get it cut!!!
